Dr. Donald R. Fox, age 93, of Celina, Ohio, passed away at 4:18p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2014. He was born August 12, 1921, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to A.J. and Eleanor (Wagner) Fox. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Shields)Fox. They recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his four daughters: Sue (Bob) Grubaugh, of Celina, Ohio, Becky (Mike) Dickman of Columbus, Ohio, Kathy (Steve) Wipper of Hilton Head, South Carolina, and Jane (Mick) Townsend of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Dr. Fox has six grandchildren: Katie (Craig) Szymczak, Donald Robert (Karaline) Grubaugh, Jennifer and Brian Dickman, and Elizabeth and Meredith Wipper and three great-grandchildren: Scott and Leigha Szymczak and Rowan Grubaugh. Dr. Fox is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, TN. He attended the University of Chattanooga for two years on a football scholarship until he was drafted into the Army Medical Corp during WWII. He then attended The University of Alabama where he received his bachelor's degree in Biology. He then went on to Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, PA where he was a member of Phi Chi medical fraternity. He completed his internship and residency in family practice at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Fox started his medical practice in Celina in 1954 and was coroner for Mercer County for thirty years, until he retired in 1989. He was a member of Mercer County Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Society, and The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians. He also served on the board of Coldwater Community Hospital. He was a charter member of Mercer County Elks, the Moose Lodge, V.F.W. Post #5713, American Legion Post #210 and a member of the mercer County Sportsman Association. He was a third degree knight with the Celina Knights of Columbus Council #1800 and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A memorial mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30a.m. on Wednesday October 29, 2014 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, Ohio, with Fr. Kenneth Schnipke officiating. Burial will follow in North Grove Cemetery in Celina with Military Honors provided by the Celina American Legion Post and the Celina V.F.W. Post. Friends may call from 2-8p.m on Tuesday October 28, 2014, and from 9-10a.m. on Wednesday at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with American Legion and V.F.W. membership services at 7p.m. and Knights of Columbus membership services at 8p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Fox's Honor to State of the Heart Hospice and the Immaculate Conception Church.
