George "Doug" Eblen, age 68, of Celina, Ohio passed away at 10:40a.m. on Monday Aug. 17, 2015 at home with his family. He was born on Jan. 27, 1947 in Celina to the late W.G. "Ray" & Margaret (McGriff) Eblen. On June 1, 1968 he married Judy Culver, who lives in Celina. Also surviving are his children Laura & Mark Chaffins of Berne, IN, Elizabeth & Mike Sudman of Celina, Christopher & Renee Eblen of Celina, 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, Sister-in-law Patricia & Doyle Wheeler of Amarillos, TX, step brother & sister-in-law Bill & Doris Marbaugh, step sisters Janet Cornish of St. Louis, MO, Elizabeth & Bill Stranges of Columbus and his in-laws Fred & Stephanie Culver of Wapakoneta, Ronda & Jim Uhlenhake of Columbus, Mary & Larry McMurray of Celina, Brenda & John Kaiser of Kennesaw, Georgia, Lynn Culver of Wapakoneta and Matt Schwieterman of Coldwater. He was preceded in death by his brothers & sister-in-law Richard Eblen, Raymond "Keith" & Betty Eblen, sister Susan Eblen, step brother Allan Marbaugh and his sister-in-law Dee Schwieterman. Doug graduated from Celina High School with the Class of 1965. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was formerly employed at Mersman Brothers, Wolfe Tires and retired from the Celina Post Office after 37 yrs of service in 2003. He was the former owner and bartender at the Carta Villa Restaurant in Celina from 1978 to 1984. At the age of 50 he ran a marathon for the first time in his life. He was a talented artist he made elaborate muzzle loaders and at the age of 55 his favorite passion became painting with water colors and has received numerous awards for his art work. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30a.m. on Thursday Aug. 20, 2015 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Kenneth Schnipke C.PP.S. officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be held on Friday Aug. 21, 2015 at 10:00a.m. in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina. Friends may call from 2-8p.m. on Wednesday and from 9-10a.m. on Thursday at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund or State of the Heart Hospice. Condolences may be left at LehmanDzendzelFH.com.
