September 22, 1933 – January 30, 2014
Mary Ann Preston, age 80, of 11719 Kingfisher Lane, St. Marys, and formerly
of Celina, passed away at 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at the
Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community. She was born on September 22, 1933
to the late Isadore and Margaret (Sudhoff) Schurman. On April 15, 1952,
she married Willis L. "Bud" Preston, who lives in St. Marys. She is survived
by her children: Penny Mizer of Maria Stein, Nancy & Alan Morse of
Westerville, and Tod & Diane Preston of New Bremen; and her grandchildren: Monica & William Warren, Mallory & Tyler Whitmore, Jeff
Preston and Chelsea Marquis, Doug & Kate Preston, Meredith Morse, Oksana
Mizer, and Karina Mizer. She is also survived by her four brothers: Robert
& Sharon Schurman of Arizona, Paul & Cindy Schurman, Jim & Carla Schurman,
and Walter & Cathy Schurman, all of Florida. Mary Ann was preceded in death
by one sister-in-law,Genevieve Schurman, and one son-in-law, Paul Mizer.
She graduated from St. John High School in Maria Stein with the class of
1951. Mary Ann worked for the Celina City Schools as a secretary and
playground aide at the Franklin School in Montezuma. She was a member of
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and a member of the Ladies Sodality.
Known by about everyone on the south side of Grand Lake as "the power
walker," she considered her family as the most important thing in her life.
Mary Ann drove local cancer patients to area cities for treatment for many
years as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was awarded a
certificate of appreciation for this in the early 1990's.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, Feb. 3,
2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Montezuma, with Fr. Alfons
Minja, C.P.P.S. celebrating. Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery
in Celina.
Calling will be 2-6 P.M. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, and from 9-9:45 A.M. on
Monday at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. In lieu of
flowers, the Preston family would like memorial contributions made to the
American Cancer Society or the Ronald McDonald House.
