Eldon Wetter Obituary

Eldon Jacob Wetter, age 85 of Celina, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at his residence in Celina. He was born on October 18, 1935 in Boscobel, Wisconsin to the late Jacob "Pat" and Gertrude (Rice) Wetter. On April 8, 1961, he married Betty J. Morgan in Blue River, Wisconsin, who survives in Celina. He is survived by his son Jeremy (Jamie) Wetter of Decatur, IN, grandchildren Melissa Wetter and Michael Wetter both of Indianapolis, IN, and brother Steve (Theresa)Wetter of Boscobel, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and brothers-in-law June (Harold) Quick, Joan (Arnold) Greene, brother and sister-in-law Stanley (Marlene) Wetter, two nephews and one niece.
Eldon graduated from the Boscobel High School with the class of 1954. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and while serving in Germany he accepted Jesus as his Savior. After serving, he farmed and worked for John Deere Tractor Works in Dubuque, IA. He then returned to school in 1963 and attended The University of Wisconsin in Platteville where he graduated in August 1967 with a Bachelor's degree and then he attended The Ohio State University in Columbus where he graduated with his Master's degree in the summer of 1969. He accepted a position at The Wright State Lake Campus in the fall of 1969 as the Assistant Professor of Geography, he also taught History, Econ., Government, and Regional Studies. From 1973-74, he attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. He retired from the Lake Campus in the summer of 1999 but continued part-time until the summer of 2010.
He was a member of the Grace Missionary Church in Celina.
He held numerous faculty governance offices; he coordinated the Campus Scholastic Bowl Competition for 28 years. He assisted with the MAC and Van Wert academic quizzing competition and judged the local and state American Legion Speech Competition on the U.S. Constitution. He held civic offices within the community including the; Lake Festival Committee for several years, Children's Trust Fund, Celina Zoning Appeals Committee and Celina Planning Commission. He loved gardening and taking care of his lawn. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Melissa and Michael, family was everything to Eldon.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at the Grace Missionary Church, with Rev. Shawn Harrison and Rev. Bruce Head officiating. Friends may gather from 10:00 A.M. to 12 P.M. on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 before services at the Grace Missionary Church. Burial will follow in North Grove Cemetery in Celina. Military Honors will follow the committal and be provided by the Celina V.F.W. Post #210 and the Celina American Legion Post #5713. Attendees are required to wear masks, practice social distancing and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.
